John Masters Organics Bourbon Vanilla Tangerine Hair Texturizer

This smells so delicious and I have an affinity towards anything vanilla and citrus scents.  I don’t usually use this for styling or texturing as it weighs down my long, fine, straight hair; however, I do think this would be great styling tool for those who has short hair.  My former boss used this everyday to either make his hair spiky or flat but still with texture.  I normally used this to smooth my flyways during the winter months and to create shine.  I just dab a very miniscule amount on my index finger; rub it all over the palm of my hands; I pat and smooth the texturizer on top of my hair from roots to ends and I run my fingers through my hair to distribute the product.  My hair looks shiny with out looking greasy when I use this, unless I use to much.  This is also great for keeping my ends from looking frizzing. I only use this as a styling tool when I need to keep my bangs in place: straight and flat against my forehead.  I use the leftover texturizer residue on my hands as a moisturizer.  This is safe for colour treated hair.  For a 2 oz pot it retails at $29.50 and $21.00 USD.

Key ingredients include:

Castor oil: smoothes hair cuticle, increases strength and shine

Glycerin: softens and moisturizes the hair shaft

Shea Butter: adds moisture

Tangerine oil: provides toning effect on scalp

Vitamins E & C: help fortify the hair shaft

John Masters Organics Shine On Leave in Hair Treatment

so300Image Credit: John Masters

This is an all natural leave in conditioner hair treatment that uses organic kelp in place of synthetic silicone to smooth the hair shaft.  Like all John Masters products this does not have petroleum in it. The certified organic plant extracts help condition the hair. When I used this it doesn’t make my hair anymore shinier than it is, at least not as shiny as the silicone based products I am used to. It did; however, it made my hair soft and frizz free.  The treatment can be used with wet or dry hair. This treatment is very light and it did leave my hair weigh down with grease. This retails at $37.00 CAD and $30.00 USD for 4 oz.

Key ingredients include:

Organic sea kelp: shines and softens hair

Marine Phytoplankton: enables the hair shaft to retain moisture

Fagus sylvatica extract: enhances natural keratin for stronger hair

Carrot seed oil: phenomenal moisturizer and high in carotene and vitamin A

Calendula extract: an antibacterial for the scalp

John Masters Organics Sea Mist Sea Salt Spray with Lavender

This salty spray smells like the beach and every time I spray this on my hair it feels very refreshing.  It is supposed to make my hair looks “beachy,” which means very tousled and textured.  Since my hair is long, straight and fine,  I don’t get the sexy beachy slightly messy waves that I would get if I had wavy or curly hair, unless I use a curling iron afterwards.  It does, however, gives my straight layered hair more texture, without the weight of texturing creams weighing down my hair.  For girls with wavy or curly hair, I image the spray would give the same tousled waves look that many celebrities sport during the summer months.  I used this as I am blow drying my hair and I use my fingers to fluff my hair to help create and enhance the texture.  Sometimes I would just spray this in my wet hair and let it air dry and finger style it as it dries, so it would dry in a style I want.  Normally when I just let my hair air dry, it dries frizzy, but with this mist it dries smooth and frizz free. It would look even more textured and tousled then with heat styling. This mist is safe for colour treated hair and the certified organic lavender nourishes the hair and keeps it from drying out.  This retails at $22.00 CAD and $16.50 USD.

Key ingredients include:

Sea salt: adds texture and volume

Lavender: normalizes scalp, conditions, slows hair loss and anti-inflammatory

John Masters Organics Hair Pomade

jm.hairpomadeImage Credit: John Masters

Like any pomade this acts as a styling and shine tool for hair. This has the typical texture of any hair pomade: thick and waxy, but not sticky. I find this a bit too heavy for my long and fine hair but I think this would work better for people with short hair or even long thick hair.  I think this works great for people who wants to achieve short spikier styles. This pomade is rich in moisturizing ingredients to tame frizz and to protect hair from heat damage through heat styling.  It is also safe for coloured treated hair. Because this is an all natural product, you can use this anywhere on your body. I don’t use this for my hair but I find that it makes an excellent moisturizer for my feet, knees and elbows.  During the very dry winter months, I like to slather this on my hands overnight and it hydrates my hands and keeps them supple. My cuticles were in tip top shape. This makes an excellent lip balm as well.  On skin this feels like a body butter.  A little bit goes a long way and this 2 oz container would last at least 1-2 years depending on use.  This retails for $28.00 CAD and $20.00 USD for 2 oz.

Key ingredients include:

Extra virgin olive oil: stimulates and moisturizes the hair shaft

Bees wax: natural holding material, which is a better alternative to petroleum based ingredients

Mango butter: adds moisture; protects hair from environmenal damage and heat from styling and protects scalp

Babassu oil: moisturizes hair

Vitamins A,C and E: fortifies the hair shaft

John Masters Organics Blood Orange and Vanilla Body Milk

All you have to say is orange and vanilla and I am sold! These are my two favourite scents.  This lotion is very moisturizing and absorbs very quickly into my dehydrated skin.  I like that it is a pump bottle to prevent from squeezing out too much product. Even when I slather on too much I am not standing there cover in lotion waiting for it to dry.  It makes my skin so supple and hydrated with safflower oil and sea algae. When I used this lotion after the Blood Orange and Vanilla Body Wash, I smell deliciously good. I love smelling like dessert!  The scent is subtle, long lasting and never overwhelming, even when I use the body wash and lotion together.  As the scent wears off, I like to dabble a bit of Body Shop’s Vanilla and Satsuma perfume oils on my erogenous zones to keep the scent going.  For a 0.8 fl oz bottle it retails for $25.40 CAD and $18.00 USD.

The key ingredients include:

Blood Orange: helps with collagen formation and detoxifies skin

Bourbon Vanilla: promotes sense of well being and smells delicious

Milk Thistle: antioxidant

Vegetable Glycerin: humectant

Sea Algae extract: soothing and nourishing to skin

Aloe Vera gel: anti-inflammatory and soothing

John Masters Organics Blood Orange and Vanilla Body Wash

I love orange scents mixed with vanilla it is just so yummy and divine.  This body wash reminds me of orange cremesicles.  The scent is subtle and it does last at least 2-3 hours on myself when I use it, which is quite long lasting since most scented body washes only last about 1 hour tops for me.  I recommend using the Blood Orange and Vanilla Body Milk afterwards for moisturizing and to maximize the longevity of the scent.  I think even my brother likes this because I swear that this body wash finished faster than I anticipated.  Either that or he is just too lazy to get his own soap when he finishes his. This is a very mild soap and doesn’t dry out my skin because it is sulfate free.  It doesn’t contain sodium lauryl sulfate, which is the the ingredient that makes the soap suds in soaps and washes. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate dissolves the natural oils in skin, which causes dryness. This foams lightly to cleanse and it feels rich and creamy.  I find this body wash very moisturizing and my skin feels very soft afterwards. In addition, I smell delicious!  I would definitely buy this again.  For 0.8 fl oz it cost $25.40 CAD and $18.00 USD.

This body wash is created with the mildest botanically based surfactant from corn and coconut.  The key ingredients include the following:

Blood Orange: promotes collagen product

Bourbon Vanilla: promotes sense of well being

Vegetable Glycerin: moisturizing

Pink Grapefruit: Balances oily skin and refreshes

Milk Thistle: Antioxidant

John Masters Organics Lip Calm

My lips are chronically dry and I have to remember to put on a lip conditioner every night before bed and every morning before I put on my makeup to prepare for lipsticks or gloss.  Softlips Lip Balm used to be my holy grail and I still love it but not as much as John Masters Organics Lip Calm. This product is completely organic and only uses natural ingredients.  It is the perfect lip moisturizer for me because it makes my lips soft, smooth and chapped free.  The Lip Calm also makes my lips look glossy without the use of petroleum.  To create the shininess Kukui oil and shea butter is used instead. In addition these ingredients are excellent for moisturizing and conditioning.  It smells deliciously good with citrus and vanilla, which is two of my favourite flavours and scents.  This retails at $8.40 CAD and $6.00 USD for 0.15 oz.  John Masters’ website has a complete ingredients list for all the products.  Some of the ingredients include:

Kukui Oil: moisturizing

Shea Butter: moisturizing and conditioning

Vanilla: yummy scent and uplifting aroma

Lime: antioxidant and great flavour

Tangerine: antioxidant and great flavour

John Masters Organics

John Masters

I love using organic products whenever I can because I believe the products are more pure and better for my skin.  With so many preservatives and chemicals in many beauty products, it is nice try products that are all natural. After all, before the first synthetics are invented people use all natural ingredients from food to skin care and beauty products.

John Masters started making organic products 20 years ago because he saw the need to create a luxury beauty line that treats the earth with respect and made with completely natural ingredients. His skin care and body care products are completely organic, certified organic by EcoCert, Quality Assurance International, California Certified Organic Farmers or Organic Crop Improvement Association.  The products are all recognized by the Natural Organic Program for the USDA. Ingredients are wild harvested, cold pressed and steam distilled extracts and none of the products contain petroleum or non-carbon based products.  John Masters’ philosophy is that organic compounds to a better job and it is better for the body and earth to simply return to the source: super natural botanicals.  Presently the USDA organic seal applies only for edible food standards.  It is important to distinguish that his products are labeled “Made with Certified Organic Ingredients,” and not all products are labeled “USDA Certified Organic,”  because currently, there are no standards for organic beauty products.  This means that the ingredients used in the products are certified organic but the product as a whole is not “USDA Certified Organic.”  His goal is to have the seal on all his products as soon as a USDA organic creates a standard for the beauty industry.  At the moment only a selection of his products are labeled “USDA Certified Organic.”  His website lists all the ingredients used in his beauty products.

The following are ingredient guidelines for John Masters’ products:

No sodium lauryl sulfate, parabens, DEAs, MEAs or TEAs

No GMOs

No petro-chemicals

No animal testing

No artificial  colours, fragrances or fillers

Ingredients must be as organic as possible

All plant extracts and essential oils must be certified organic whenever possible

All essential oils used must be steam-distilled and not extracted with propylene glycol, which kills the effect of the oils

All plant oils must be cold pressed, not heat distilled which kills the therapeutic properties of plants oils

All ingredients must be proven to be beneficial to the hair or skin

All ingredients must be harvested in an environmentally friendly manner (wild crafted)

All ingredients must be bio-degradable as possible

Fair Trade ingredients must be used when possible

I have tried some John Masters products that I really liked.  Stay tuned for the reviews.
