Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer SPF 20 Review

I have been using Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Corrector Serum since September 2009. I find the serum very effective in making my acne scars lighter and smoothing the bumpy scars. Since December, I have added the moisturizer to my skin care regime, in conjunction with the serum. I have been using the serum and moisturizer together for about 3.5 months (in total I have been using the serum for 6.5 months) and I do find that there is an improvement in my skin tone because my freckles seem to be lighter. In addition, the moisturizer works well with my dehydrated skin during the dry winter months.

The texture of the cream is white and thick but it feels light on my skin, but I think this cream may be too heavy for beauties with oily skin. My skin feels hydrated using just four little dabs of cream and spreading it all over my face. The cream also absorbs into my skin very fast. While I find the serum very effective and I see results within 3 weeks, I think by adding the moisturizer it cuts healing time of acne discolouration and scarring to about two weeks. Although I still get pimples from hormonal reasons, I have not have a major breakout since using the serum and moisturizer together. As per my review with the serum, the serum is excellent in smoothing out my acne scars and reducing the redness but once it turns brown, it looks like freckles. With the cream, the darkened and browned marks have faded.

I have been using the cream twice a day together with the serum since December and I think I still have about a 2 week supply of cream left. I estimate that one 50mL jar of cream can last me about 3-4 months. A little bit of cream twice a day goes a long way. Since I have been using this during the fall and winter months, I have no idea if the cream would be too heavy for the hotter summer months. If that is the case, I could just stick to the serum and use something a bit lighter. Although I like the moisturizer, I like the texture of the serum better because I like how the serum feels very silky on my skin. I also think the serum works very well on its own without the moisturizer because the moisturizer is really just an add on sale; however, it is nice that the moisturizer has a SPF20 because the serum does not have SPF. It is quite expensive costing $51.50 CAD for a 50ML jar. I am not too sure how long I could budget myself spending about $100 for skin care every two months. If I have to choose between the serum and the moisturizer, I would pick the serum.

Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Corrector

When I heard about this product from Karen at the Makeup and Beauty Blog a few months back, I knew I have to try this. According to Clinique this serum is suppose to reverse sun damage, smooth acne scars and give the complexion an even skin tone. After suffering from a long summer of breakouts, the skin on my forehead is left a bit red, scarred and bumpy. While Retin-A Micro and Hydrocortisone have helped clear up my skin, the scarring is evident and it makes me self-conscious. At $53 CAD for 30 mL , it is quite expensive but it is effective. One bottle lasts me about 6 weeks. I have been using this serum for about 10 weeks and the improvement is evident.

This is a lightweight white concentrated serum and 1-2 drops is enough for my face. I use this twice a day under moisturizer: once in the morning and once in the evening. After 3 weeks of use I noticed that my bumpy scars from acne are a lot smoother and close to being completely gone. I find that this serum also helps prevent major breakouts. The only major breakout I have experienced since using this was resulted from the Skinfood Black Sesame Hot Mask. As for the claims to even out the skin tone, I have yet to notice any major differences because although I have freckles, I don’t have other sun damage that I could tell. I still have a bit of discoloration from my acne scarring; however, by week 6 of use most of the redness is fading. My acne scarring is fading to a light brown blending in with my freckles. Which is a better alternative than bumpy red scars. This product has Salicylic Acid in it to help gently exfoliate the skin and to diminish acne. Salicylic Acid also makes the skin more sensitive to the sun. SInce this serum does not have SPF, ladies please remember to wear sunscreen or all the serum’s hard work in correcting the damage would be a moot point.

This serum is one of the best skin care products I have tried in a long time and I have added this to my regular skin care regime. Although it is pricey, I try to make room for this in my beauty budget every 1.5 months are so. Since I like this serum so much, I have added Clinique’s new complimenting Even Skin Tone Correcting moisturizer SPF 20 to my skin care as well. I will write an entry for the moisturizer once I finish the jar in a few weeks. I hope the skin tone correcting properties would be accelerated when I use both the serum and moisturizer.
