A Flowery Pink Sugar: Aquolina Pink Sugar Sensual Eau de Toilette

Last year, Aquolina introduced a new scent to its line up: Pink Sugar Sensual. In was only available at European retailers at first but Sephora has been carrying this since early this year.  When I received Sephora’s VIB holiday gift card of $20, I decided it is time for me to pick it up.While the original Pink Sugar is supposed to be cute, sweet and youthful, Pink Sugar Sensual is more sophisticated and feminine. The original is bombarded with vanilla and lemon notes but the new scent is floral, orange, slightly bitter and musky. As PSS starts to dry down, the bitterness and muskiness lift and it becomes more floral and sweet.

To me, Pink Sugar Sensual reminds me of Viktor and Rolf’s Flowerbomb but not as sweet. Flowerbomb is more vanilla and PSS is more floral and fruity but the dry down is very similar. Aquolina sells PSS as a “sexier” scent then PS but for some reason I feel sexier with PS because I like the stronger vanilla notes in the original. PSS is a pretty scent not extremely original, but I like to wear it when I want something floral. The wear time of PSS on me is about 6-7 hours.

The packaging is clean and simple and it compliments the original Pink Sugar. I like the lacy motif on the pink and black tube packaging: pink background with black lace; however, I think it would be better if they used the black lace motif on to the bottle too and use a more sophisticated font for the label.  I think it  would make the packaging design more coherent and would sell the sexier and more sophisticated image better.

Sugar Sensual notes:

Middle Notes: Orange Blossom, Pink Jasmine petals and Tiare Flowers

Base Notes: Vanilla, Black Sugar and Sandalwood

Aquolina Chocolovers Eau de Toilette Natural Spray

I have been a long time lover of Aquolina’s Chocolovers au de toilette Natural Spray before I bought Pink Sugar to try. I have had my original 50mL Chocolovers for about 5 years before I bought my second bottle. The scent is a bit stronger than Pink Sugar and last longer on my body. On my body, the scent last about 5 hours. A little spray here and there goes a long way.

To me Chocolovers smells very warm and comforting and I think it is the perfect winter or a night time perfume. The fragrance ‘s notes feature: orange, hazelnut, coriander, musk, vanilla, lily-of-the-valley, bergamot and lemon. Oddly though, for a “chocolate” scent it doesn’t have any chocolate in any of the notes.

At first spray it smells like a mix of orange and chocolate and quite sweet but not as sugary sweet as Pink Sugar. There is a spiciness in the scent making it stronger and more sophisticated than Pink Sugar. Within 10 minutes, the scent softens up and the chocolate, citrus and spiciness lifts, leaving an aroma of vanilla and hazelnuts but still smells faintly of chocolate. The lingering scent reminds me of a spicier Nutella, almost like chai. If you are a gourmand scented perfume fan but find Pink Sugar too youthful and sweet, give Chocolovers a try. It is like a darker and sexier version of it. I love using this on cold days or a night out.  I also think Chocolovers smell really nice mixed with Pink Sugar.

Aquolina Pink Sugar Eau de Toilette Natural Spray & My Quest for Aquolina Pink Sugar Sensual

I love vanilla and fruit based scents, as I love smelling like a dessert. I find vanilla and fruity notes give me energy and put me in a good mood. Many people think this scent is too teeny booper, but I am drawn to sweet smelling scents. Pink Sugar is supposed to evoke memories of childhood or for those feeling young at heart. I am a fan of Aquolina scents because I have their Aquolina Chocolovers au de toilette and I love that one too. I have been wearing Chocolovers often since I got their 50mL spray about 3-4 years ago. Before Sephora opened Aquolina is hard find in my city, as the only places that sells it is out of my way in the opposite side of town. Even when Sephora opened it keeps on selling out! In addition, I didn’t want to pay $67 CAD for 100mL bottle of perfume, as I was on a budget. Trying to be frugal, I found one on good old Ebay for cheaper .

The 100mL bottle should last me awhile, as the 50mL Chocolovers lasted me four years. This scent reminds me of lemon sugar cookies, it is sweet but as a tanginess to it. I like that it is cute and sweet with just a bit of naughtiness too it. The scent lasts me about 3-4 hours before it fades away. When I wear Pink Sugar, I feel happy and invigorated.

At first scent, I can smell the vanilla, citrus and licorice scent. I am not too crazy about the licorice scent but as it fades away it smells distinctively of vanilla and a light floral scent. The floral scent gives it a bit of sophistication and the citrus scent gives it a sexy youthful energy.

Notes of Pink Sugar: Bergamot, Sicilian Orange, Raspberry, Fig Leaves, Lily of the Valley, Licorice, Strawberry, Red Fruit, Cotton Candy, Caramel, Musk, Wood, Powder.

In September 2009, Aquolina introduced a new scent to its line up: Pink Sugar Sensual. Since I am a fan of the original, I was on a hunt for this since its launch. While the original edition of Pink Sugar is youthful and cute, Pink Sugar Sensual is more sophisticated, mature, passionate and sexier. The name of the game is “seduction,” as the scent is stronger and more sensual. Who doesn’t want to be the sexy bad girl once in a while?  If you think the original Pink Sugar is a bit too young for you, but you like vanilla/floral scents, Pink Sugar Sensual might be a nice alternative. I like the lacy motif in the packaging, as it mimics the look of lingerie. I think they should extend the lacy motif to the actual bottle because it would compliment the design and theme of the fragrance better. It would distinguish the “sexy” scent from the “cute” scent better. My nozzle has not taken a whiff at this yet, as it looks like it is only available in Europe at this time. I can’t even find it on Ebay! The only site that has it in stock is from Denmark and it is crazy expensive. I don’t think they even ship out side of Europe. Sephora, please bring this to the North American market!
